Rainforest Jazzdance
Rainforest Jazzdance
Standing at 8 ½ feet, this sculpture is unique in the art world and pushes the physical and aesthetic limits of the medium of domestic hardwoods. All parts are entirely hand carved in wood. It is carved primarily in Maine Grown Tiger Maple and there is no bending of the wood. The surfaces were brought to a glass-like finish through progressive meticulous refinement. This piece is about preserving tropical rainforests, exploring the limits of workability of hardwood. It speaks about race, gender, brotherhood, beauty, sensuality, and peace on earth.
