The Tree
The Tree
Standing at 8 ½ feet, this sculpture pushes the physical and aesthetic limits of the medium ofdomestic hardwoods. All parts are entirely hand carved in wood. It is carved primarily in Maine Grown Tiger Maple. The surfaces were brought to a glass-like finish through progressive meticulous refinement. This piece is about preserving tropical rainforests, exploring the limits of workability of hardwood. It speaks about race, gender, brotherhood, beauty, sensuality, and peace on earth.
